5 Things to do in Asheville in the Summer

1. Go Ziplining

We went to Navitat Canopy Adventures in Barnardsville, North Carolina. There are two choices when zipping; a 7 zip course, and a 3 zip course. We did the 3 zip as it was some of the family’s first time on a zipline (they are from Brooklyn). The last time I had done this zip in particular was 2015, so it was nice getting back out there. It is about 30 minutes north of Asheville and heavily shaded (because it’s a forest lol) which made it the perfect temperature during a summer day. Not too hot, and not too cold. I would highly recommend going as all of the guides are super nice, friendly, and knowledgeable on the flora and fauna in the area.

2. Sierra Nevada Brewing

Second on the list is Sierra Nevada Brewery located in Mills River, North Carolina. It is a 180 acre facility with the prettiest grounds I’ve seen (at a brewery at least). It offers tours and tastings of the facility which we didn’t book this time around. It offers specialty craft beers that are brewed in house. The outdoor patio is spectacular with a play area for kids and lots of seating, shaded and non-shaded. There is also a dining room/restaurant inside that is reservation only, so we didn’t eat there. For the non-beer drinkers, it offers hard kombucha which actually was pretty tasty. Overall, it was a fun experience and recommended for those who like to drink good beer and be outside.

3. Mast General Store

The Mast General Store is an Asheville staple, located in the heart of downtown. The two story wonderland is known for its barrels of candy and wide variety of outdoorsy gear and locally made crafts. It is my absolute favorite place to go to.

4. Wicked Weed Brewery

Wicked Weed features a wide variety of craft beers, brewed in house, along with a full bar and menu. For the IPA drinkers, you have to try the Pernicious IPA. As my bonus dad would say "Pernicious is delicious!" Regarding food, you can't go wrong, it is all so good. I personally love the indoor/outdoor atmosphere and friendliness of the waitstaff. It is also dog friendly!

5. Hiking

Asheville is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountain Range which runs along the North Carolina - Tennessee border. There are endless hikes ranging from beginner trails to 5 stars on the difficulty meter. Google or hiking books are your best bet to find the prettiest views. The summer is always the best time to go because the tree canopy keeps you shaded and cool. Just keep an eye out on the radar as a summer storm can pop up rather quickly.

Asheville is one of my all time favorite places to go. It truly has something fun for anyone and everyone. I hope you enjoyed my guide and enjoy your next adventure!
